A day before Obsession reaches JioHotstar, Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan have offered an early look at the Hindi voice cast. In a social media clip, the two actors sit across from each other in a restaurant and recreate the film’s tense diner moment. Kriti plays Nikki’s unsettling side while Varun plays Bear, the quiet music store employee pulled into her orbit. Director Amar Kaushik appears in the clip as well, helping keep the original scene’s odd, escalating tension alive. The video follows this week’s announcement that the two actors are voicing the Hindi dubbing.

The Hindi voice that has X talking

Fan reaction on X was immediate, with much of the praise pointed at Kriti’s performance. Viewers noted her “voice modulation” and the way her expressions change within seconds. One commenter said they could not imagine a better Hindi voice for Nikki.

For a horror film, the voice is not only translation: it carries the unease. Kriti’s quick switches between Nikki’s charm and menace are precisely what a Hindi dub of this material needs to connect with local audiences.

A small budget, a giant total

The Hindi voice cast arrives when Obsession is already a worldwide phenomenon. The film was produced for a reported $750,000 (about ₹7.5 crore) and has earned $522 million globally, making it one of the most profitable horror releases in recent memory.

  • Reported budget: $750,000 (about ₹7.5 crore)
  • Worldwide gross: $522 million
  • Domestic gross: $263 million
  • International gross: $253 million

Those numbers put director Curry Barker firmly on Hollywood’s radar. For Indian viewers, a recognisable Hindi voice cast can be the nudge that turns a streaming curiosity into a first-night watch.

What Obsession is about

In the original, Michael Johnston plays Bear Bailey, a quiet music store employee who cannot bring himself to tell his confident co-worker Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, how he feels. When Bear discovers a strange toy called the One Wish Willow at a crystal shop, the cashier warns him that it has brought misery to people who have used it.

Bear ignores the warning, snaps the willow, and wishes for Nikki to love him more than anything. The wish works at first, but Nikki’s love turns overwhelming, disturbing and violent. Bear then has to find a way to reverse the wish before the dream relationship becomes a full nightmare.

When to watch

The uncut original version of Obsession, starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, premieres on The Peacock Hub on JioHotstar on October 30 at 7 pm. The recreation clip suggests the Hindi voice cast will be a central part of the pitch to Indian fans.
