National Award-winning actor Yami Gautam is set to take aim at Delhi’s Red Fort Ground this Dussehra. On October 20, she will perform the symbolic Ravan Vadh at the Luv Kush Ramleela, shooting the victory arrow at the Ravana effigy in front of thousands of spectators.

The moment has a film-sized echo. Yami recently performed a Ravan Vadh sequence in her latest release, Nayyi Navelli. Now that cinematic frame moves from the screen to one of Delhi’s best-known festive stages.

From Nayyi Navelli to the Red Fort

The Luv Kush Ramleela has long been a magnet for Bollywood stars at Dussehra. This year, the committee invited Yami Gautam to fire the arrow, linking her role in Nayyi Navelli with the festival’s central ritual.

For the audience, it is a rare chance to see a film moment recreated live, with the Red Fort as the backdrop, on the day the country marks the victory of good over evil. The overlap also gives the film a wider showcase: a festival-stage appearance can put a title in front of family audiences who may not follow film promotions online.

A theme of respect, not just spectacle

This year’s Ramleela theme is “Respect for Women”. Arjun Kumar, President of the Luv Kush Ramleela Committee, explained that the committee sees women as symbols of love, compassion and strength, but also as figures with the courage to challenge injustice. The invitation is intended to send the message that “women play an equally significant role in the victory of good over evil,” he said.

The choice reframes a familiar ritual. In this telling, the effigy of Ravana is not just a mythological villain but a symbol of arrogance, injustice and the social evils the committee hopes to challenge.

A tradition that has hosted Bollywood’s biggest names

Yami joins a long list of film personalities associated with the Luv Kush Ramleela’s Ravan Vadh celebrations:

  • Akshay Kumar
  • Ajay Devgn
  • John Abraham
  • Prabhas
  • Kareena Kapoor
  • Rohit Shetty

Her appearance adds a new chapter, but it also carries a sharper message this year because of the theme.

What the evening means for Delhi

The committee has invited families and children to attend the October 20 celebration at Red Fort Ground. For celebrity-watchers, it is a chance to see Yami Gautam in full festive mode; for the larger audience, it is a live reminder of Dussehra’s core message, delivered this year through a woman’s arrow.
