Shah Rukh Khan is swapping film sets for festival curation, at least for one day. On Friday evening, he announced UNIFYD, a one-day music festival he has put together for Abu Dhabi.
The event takes place on 20 March 2027 at Etihad Live. Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh and Karan Aujla are the headline acts. Fans who want early access can download the District app and switch on notifications for when tickets go live.
A reveal that plays on SRK’s charm
In the announcement video, Shah Rukh starts with “Music, how hard can it be?” then works his way through keyboard, saxophone, drums, guitar, violin and even singing. None of it sticks, and he lands on the punchline: “Let’s just leave this to the pros.”
The promo then cuts to concert clips of Sonu, Arijit and Karan. His closing line, “It’s time to come together, it’s time to be unified,” explains the festival’s name while keeping the tone light.
Why this lineup carries weight
Each headliner arrives with a different kind of momentum.
- Sonu Nigam has been busy across film playback, with recent titles including Border 2, Do Deewane Seher Mein, Batwara 1947 and Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam.
- Karan Aujla is coming off the P-Pop Culture album and the hip-hop EP AUJLA SZN 1, and his comment under the announcement — “Aujla aujla baby do your thinggg” — matched the energy.
- Arijit Singh is the most closely watched name. He had announced his retirement from Bollywood playback singing in January this year, yet he has continued to appear on film soundtracks, including Border 2, O’Romeo, Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Cocktail 2. His voice is also expected in Ramayana: Rise of a Legend and Maatrubhumi.
The festival also has a family thread. Aryan Khan’s brand D’YAVOL is one of the brand partners, and Suhana Khan left heart emojis on the social post.
Where this fits in SRK’s calendar
Shah Rukh Khan last fronted three films in 2023: Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. After a short break, he returned to set for King, directed by Sidharth Anand. The film pairs him with Suhana Khan and includes Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Rani Mukerji and Raghav Juyal. It is due in theatres on December 24.
If the schedule holds, SRK will move from a big December film release into a March festival appearance. It is a sign that his post-2023 run is not just about acting comebacks, but about building live-event moments around his name.
For now, the only action for fans is to get onto the District app and keep an eye on UNIFYD’s page. With the first wave of names confirmed, announcements around tickets and the rest of the bill are likely to drive the next burst of conversation.
