Mumbai’s celebrity circuit had a decidedly craft-forward weekend. A Mid-day photo feature published on October 10 captured a string of stars across the city — at a Swadesh event, on a red carpet and in everyday street-style moments — and the through-line was traditional Indian textiles worn with intent.

The Swadesh moment

Nita Ambani was photographed at a Swadesh milestone event celebrating the artisans and craftspeople behind the initiative. She posed alongside master weavers and artisans in an elegant traditional saree, making the craft community the centre of the frame rather than the red carpet.

Ranveer Singh brought his usual high-voltage energy to the same event in a bright pink kurta paired with an intricately detailed brocade jacket and crisp white trousers. Aditi Rao Hydari chose a black and gold traditional ensemble, Jacqueline Fernandez wore a delicate floral-printed sheer saree, and Sanjay Dutt kept it monochrome in an all-black traditional-fusion look.

Rashmika Mandanna, photographed separately in the city, stayed in the same register: a deep purple and gold traditional saree with an embellished blouse, hair in a graceful updo and traditional jewellery.

What the sightings tell us

These are not just who-wore-what pictures. The Swadesh looks show how festive-season dressing is moving toward craft-led statements — brocade, handloom, intricate embellishment — rather than simple red-carpet glamour. For celebrity-watchers, that is a useful signal about the looks likely to dominate upcoming festive and wedding-season coverage.

  • Ranveer Singh’s pink brocade jacket was the boldest colour-block of the set.
  • Rashmika Mandanna and Jacqueline Fernandez kept the saree as the hero piece.
  • Nita Ambani used the frame to highlight artisans, not just fashion.
  • Aamir Khan and Gauri Spratt were also spotted hand-in-hand on a Mumbai red carpet, keeping the event circuit busy.

Street style kept pace

Beyond the traditional-heavy appearances, the city delivered its usual mix of casual celebrity outings. Tamannaah Bhatia layered a black top over a white shirt with light blue wide-leg jeans, while Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal were photographed out and about together. Tiger Shroff stepped out of his car in casual street style, Sai Pallavi kept it cheerful in a green sweatshirt and orange trousers ahead of what the feature described as the Ramayana song launch, and Elli AvrRam leaned into an athleisure look.

What to borrow

If the weekend has a wearable lesson, it is to let one strong traditional piece do the talking. A brocade jacket, a sheer saree or a rich silk drape can anchor an outfit on its own; the rest of the look can stay simple. The craft-first approach is also a good reminder that Indian fashion’s best moments often come from textiles, not noise.
