Bollywood’s biggest mythology play is about to get its first Hollywood close-up. Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, will hold its world premiere on October 27 at the David Geffen Theatre inside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
The invite-only evening is being planned as a 3D screening in the 945-seat venue. Organisers expect Hollywood personalities, international filmmakers and global media on the carpet. For the arrivals, guests have been asked to dress in traditional Indian attire.
A Diwali-week red carpet in LA
The date is not accidental. The premiere falls in the run-up to Diwali, bringing Indian festive styling to a Hollywood landmark. For fans who follow launch rollouts, this is the moment to watch for first-look imagery of the cast as the film is positioned for a global audience.
The cast and the scale
The first instalment of the two-part adaptation features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. Following the Los Angeles screening, the film opens worldwide on November 5, 2026, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The second part is scheduled for Diwali 2027.
The production backing explains the ambition. Prime Focus Studios has produced the film in association with visual effects house DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.
What happens after the red carpet
Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is set for a wide theatrical release, including IMAX screenings. Sony Pictures is handling overseas distribution outside India, while Dharma Productions manages theatrical distribution across the Hindi-speaking market.
Key rollout details:
- World premiere: October 27, 2026, at the Academy Museum, Los Angeles
- Format: invite-only 3D screening for a 945-seat audience
- Worldwide release: November 5, 2026, in five languages
- Part two: Diwali 2027
Based on sage Valmiki’s ancient text, the story follows Prince Rama’s journey from Ayodhya to exile and the abduction of Sita by Ravana, setting up the larger conflict between good and evil. That epic scope is exactly why a 3D first look at a venue like the Academy Museum makes sense: it frames the film as a global spectacle before it reaches Indian theatres.
For celebrity-watchers, the October 27 date is the first checkpoint. The red carpet will show how traditional Indian formalwear is interpreted by the leads and their international guests, and it will set the tone for the worldwide release nine days later.
