Rajkummar Rao is adding a small but buzz-worthy appearance to one of this week’s big Bollywood releases. The actor is set for a cameo in Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar, the Luv Ranjan-produced coming-of-age drama that opens worldwide in cinemas on 23 October 2026.
The film is directed by Anuj Saini, who makes his directorial debut, and is produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under Luv Films. It introduces six new faces as the main cast: Sparsh Walia, Alisha Chopra, Kunal Vaid, Sakshi Vaidya, Tushar Chhibber and Sargun Kaur Luthra.
A familiar face in a first-time cast
Rajkummar’s cameo gives the debut-driven film a recognisable anchor. He already shares working history with Luv Ranjan: he starred in the sports-comedy Chhalaang, which Luv co-produced, and he is lined up to lead Luv’s upcoming Sourav Ganguly biopic Dada. That connection makes the brief appearance feel like a natural extension of a continuing collaboration rather than a random guest spot.
The film itself revolves around friendship, love, old crushes and the complications of young relationships. Luv Ranjan said the story draws from school, friendships, crushes and the people who made those years special. He added, “the characters belong to a younger generation, the emotions are universal.”
Why the cast is the real story
While the cameo is likely to bring extra attention on release day, the bigger experiment here is the launch of six newcomers. The film’s marketing has to introduce half a dozen debutants while still giving audiences a reason to show up on opening weekend. A known face in a cameo can do that job without taking the spotlight from the ensemble.
For director Anuj Saini, the debut cast is central. He described the film as special to him as a directorial debut and said he could not have asked for a more exciting bunch to begin the journey with.
A cameo that points forward
For an audience that tracks celebrity moves, this cameo is less a standalone surprise and more a signal. Rajkummar and Luv Ranjan are already aligned on Dada, and a small appearance here keeps the actor within the producer’s current slate. It also gives the release an easy conversation starter at a time when a new ensemble needs every hook it can get.
There is no indication yet about the size or nature of the cameo, so part of the opening-weekend fun will be watching how the role lands. But the announcement itself is enough to nudge the film into the celebrity-news cycle before the debutants have had a chance to build their own visibility.
What to keep an eye on
- Rajkummar Rao appears in a cameo, but the leads are all first-time actors.
- The film releases on 23 October 2026 under Luv Films.
- It arrives before Rajkummar and Luv Ranjan reunite on the Sourav Ganguly biopic Dada.
For celebrity-watchers heading to cinemas this month, the fun is in spotting the cameo while meeting six new faces at once. For the industry, it is another reminder that a small, familiar presence can help a fresh cast find its first audience.
