The new international trailer for Ramayana: Rise of a Legend has picked up a heavyweight public endorsement. Filmmaker SS Rajamouli shared the preview on X, praising director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra for mounting one of India’s most retold epics at a scale built for the big screen.
Why Rajamouli’s post matters
After the first trailer drew VFX criticism, the conversation about Ramayana had been drifting toward the technical. Rajamouli’s note is a course correction. A director associated with large-canvas Indian storytelling publicly backing the film gives the team a credible response to early skeptics without forcing a defensive frame-by-frame debate.
Each actor brings these timeless characters to life with depth.
Rajamouli wrote on X that it is a joy to see Tiwari and Malhotra bring the story to the screen on such a grand scale, and that he is looking forward to 5th November.
What the international trailer reveals
The 2-minute 36-second cut opens in a world of harmony, introduces Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra, and then follows Ravana’s rise. Ranbir Kapoor’s Rama is shown wrestling with a destiny he cannot refuse, while Yash’s Ravana closes the preview with a warning that this is only the beginning.
The core pieces are now in place:
- Rama: Ranbir Kapoor
- Sita: Sai Pallavi
- Ravana: Yash
- Part 1 release: November 5, 2026 worldwide
- Part 2 release: Diwali 2027
- Languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam
- Formats: 3D, IMAX and other premium large formats
The theatre-first pitch
The film is being positioned as a theatrical event, not a routine release. The makers are promising what they call “the most immersive 3D cinematic experience ever.” That is a deliberate pivot after the first trailer’s visual-effects debate: rather than win a compressed-screen argument, the campaign is inviting audiences to judge the finished spectacle in cinemas.
A five-language release plan signals how the team is thinking about reach. This is less about a single market and more about opening the same date across multiple language audiences.
That release design also gives the team a long runway. Part 1 lands on November 5, 2026, and Part 2 follows in Diwali 2027, so the marketing has to sell a first chapter that feels complete while keeping the larger conflict alive. It is a franchise bet on a story most Indian audiences already know, which makes the promised scale the differentiator.
What to watch before November 5
Expect the promotional run to centre on the cast and the spectacle. Ranbir Kapoor’s Rama carries the weight of fate, while Sai Pallavi’s Sita and Yash’s Ravana anchor the emotional extremes. Keep an eye on how the team handles visual-effects chatter: the campaign is training attention on the theatre formats rather than the compressed cut. The open question is whether the immersive cinema promise can turn early skeptics into opening-weekend audiences.
