Nana Patekar, 75, to Get State Honours at Pune Farmhouse Funeral

Veteran actor Nana Patekar died on the morning of October 8 at his residence in Goa after a heart attack. He was 75. The family and the state government moved quickly to confirm that his final rites would be held the same day at his farmhouse in Donje, on the outskirts of Pune.

A public darshan at the farmhouse

Ganesh Thorat, CEO of Patekar’s Naam Foundation, told the press that the actor’s mortal remains would be brought to Pune around 5 pm. The body will then be kept for a final “darshan” before the last rites, he said.

For fans, that is the key detail: the farmhouse farewell will not be a closed family event. The arrangement turns the actor’s final journey into a moment where admirers can pay their respects in person, provided they gather respectfully and follow the instructions of local authorities.

State honours and a confirmed timeline

Maharashtra’s Minister of Cultural Affairs, Ashish Shelar, announced that Nana Patekar would receive full state honours. He said the decision was taken because of the actor’s contribution to Marathi plays and to Marathi and Hindi cinema.

Shelar described the death as “a profound loss for the world of art”, and noted that Patekar rose from Yeola to build a career through talent and perseverance.

Earlier in the day, the actor’s son Malhar Patekar confirmed the death to local media. Nana Patekar was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula, Goa, and was taken to Manipal Hospital. Doctors attempted to revive him for about 45 minutes before declaring him dead at around 5:20 am; the cause was cited as a heart attack.
