Mrunal Thakur has turned a long gap in her release calendar into a clear statement. In an interview with Mid-Day, the actor said she has not signed a film in almost nine months—and the reason is not a lack of offers.
A break she is choosing
Thakur said she is not connecting with the stories being made right now, so she is holding out for a role that feels right. “I haven’t signed any film in almost nine months,” she said, adding that she is waiting for a meaningful role.
Her logic comes down to time. A film can mean roughly 120 days on set, and she said she does not want to spend those days questioning why she is there. She wants love and recognition, but also creative satisfaction—work she can stand behind decades later.
Raaka remains an open question
The timing makes the Raaka reports hard to ignore. The Atlee-directed sci-fi film brings Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone together, and multiple reports have linked Thakur to the project. She neither confirmed nor denied those claims. If there is an announcement, she said, it will happen on her social media handle first.
What we know so far:
- No film deal signed in almost nine months.
- The pause is a creative choice, not a shortage of offers.
- Raaka casting reports remain unconfirmed.
- Raaka is set for 2027 and stars Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone.
- The film holds a Guinness World Record for real-time motion capture with 37 performers.
The buzz around Raaka
Even without a confirmed addition, Raaka is carrying momentum. It marks Allu Arjun’s first collaboration with Atlee and is scheduled for a 2027 release. The production has set a Guinness World Record for the “Most People Motion-Captured in Real-Time”, with 37 performers participating at once.
Allu Arjun has asked audiences for patience, saying the team is taking its time. “We are trying to serve you the best,” he said. “I hope it’s all worth it for you.”
Director Cibi Chakaravarthi has only raised expectations. He said the visuals Atlee showed him were so strong that he did not think even Avatar had visuals like that, and that audiences would soon see what he meant.
Where Mrunal stands now
Thakur was last seen in the ZEE5 crime thriller Pooja Meri Jaan, directed by Navjot Gulati and co-directed by Vipasha Arvind. The film also stars Huma Qureshi, Vijay Raaz and Vikram Singh Chauhan.
For now, nine months without signing is not a signal that she is out of options. It is a deliberate filter. Watch her social media handle for the next announcement—it will be official when it appears there.
