Some meetings feel like internet destiny. Kareena Kapoor and McLaren Formula One driver Lando Norris shared one of those at the Singapore Grand Prix last weekend: a Bollywood star and a world champion sitting down over masala chai, racing trivia and a quick lesson in Indian hand gestures.

Google India posted the chat on Friday evening, after McLaren F1 had already welcomed Kareena to its Papaya Family earlier in the day. Earlier, McLaren F1 had posted a snap of the actor and called her ‘the newest member of the Papaya Family,’ the official global community and fan base of the team. Kareena also shared pictures from the paddock and circuit on Instagram Stories before the main chat dropped.

From Ta Ra Rum Pum to an actual world title

Kareena opened with a joke that only Bollywood fans would fully catch. She said her husband, Saif Ali Khan, already won a ‘world championship’ 19 years ago — a nod to his role as a NASCAR champion in the 2007 film Ta Ra Rum Pum. Without missing a beat, Norris replied, ‘So, we’re the same, basically.’

The line works because the timelines are close enough to be funny. Norris, a 26-year-old from Britain, has raced for McLaren since his Formula One debut in 2018, and he won the actual world championship with the team in 2025. Saif’s title was filmi; Lando’s is real.

Masala chai, trivia and a rapid-fire round

The video did not stop at jokes. Kareena put Norris through a quick cultural crash course:

  • Indian gestures: She taught him common hand signals and asked him to decode what they mean.
  • Masala chai: The F1 driver got a taste of a proper Indian staple.
  • Rapid-fire Q&A: Kareena quizzed him on his racing wins and McLaren’s Formula One history.

It is the kind of light-touch, personality-led content that travels far beyond either fandom.

Why the crossover matters

For celebrity watchers, the clip is a reminder that Bollywood’s global presence is not limited to red carpets and film festivals. Formula One has been courting Indian audiences, and a familiar face such as Kareena gives McLaren and Google India a softer way to reach people who may not know a pit stop from a power unit.

Kareena’s own slate keeps the actor in headlines too. She was last seen in Meghna Gulzar’s investigative drama Daayra with Prithviraj Sukumaran, a film inspired by true events that received mixed reviews.

But this Singapore GP moment was never about reviews or race strategy. It was about a champion laughing at a Bollywood joke, sipping the chai and learning to nod the desi way.
