Elli AvrRam is known for bringing an unfiltered, energetic spark to her roles. But on the set of her latest web series Chummbak, the actor found herself in a completely unfamiliar place: she had an anxiety attack for the first time in her career.

Elli was filming the fun, flamboyant part of Alicia while navigating a difficult chapter in her personal life. In a new interview, she described how the comedy set became both an escape and a place where she was supported.

What happened on the Chummbak set

“For the first time in my career did I get an anxiety attack on set and it was very traumatic to experience, but I was in great hands and got well taken care of,” she said.

That support, she explained, came from the top down. She called the Chummbak set “one big family,” and credited director Aatish sir, producer JD sir and her fellow actors for keeping the atmosphere uplifting even while she was struggling.

Why the team mattered

From the outside, a comedy set looks like the easiest place to be: laughter, colours, silly scenes. But that surface can hide what someone is carrying. Anxiety doesn’t pause because the camera rolls, and a star’s day at work can be as hard as anyone else’s.

What stands out in Elli’s account is not just the anxiety attack, but the response around her. She says she was in great hands and well taken care of, and that changed how the experience stayed with her.

“It really warmed my heart to once again be reminded of how many beautiful people we also have in the film industry,” she said.

A room to be silly and free

The same project also gave Elli something she genuinely loves: comedy. She said slipping into Alicia helped her get into a “fun space of just being silly and free.”

That is not new for her. She revealed that she has imitated funny characters since childhood and performed comedy plays in school. “I’m all for comedies and especially sitcoms because it’s so light and entertaining that it always leaves you feeling good,” she said.

Chummbak also gave her another chance to work with Neena Gupta after Goodbye. But the two roles are not the same: Elli said Alicia is louder and more diva-centric than her earlier comic part.

As for where the story goes, she kept it playful. Alicia enters the Chummbak colony as a guest, she said, adding, “who knows what happens next!”

The frame to keep

For fans looking at red-carpet smiles and ensemble stills from Chummbak, the backstory adds texture. You are seeing not just a character; you are seeing an actor who got through a rough day because the people around her made space for it. That kind of production culture can turn a very traumatic moment into a story about being cared for.
