Anupam Kher has joined the Ramayana universe as the voice of Jatayu, the character whose courage gives the epic one of its most stirring turns. The makers of Ramayana Part 1 dropped a new poster on October 13, eight days before advance bookings open.
A veteran voice for the Wings of Dharma
The poster keeps Jatayu at the centre. One frame holds a close-up of his eyes; another shows the great bird with wings spread wide. The note from the makers is short but loaded: “When evil took flight, courage rose to meet it.”
In the Ramayana, Jatayu tries to save Sita from Ravana even though he is hopelessly outmatched. He does not fight for victory; he fights because it is right. Giving that role to Anupam Kher brings a veteran’s weight to the film’s moral core.
Release plan and advance bookings
Ramayana Part 1 arrives in cinemas worldwide, including India, on November 5, 2026. The makers have also clarified that Indian theatres will get the film on the same day as the global release, after earlier reports had suggested a two-day gap for India.
Advance bookings open on Dussehra, October 20, 2026, which makes the ticket window feel like a festival event rather than a routine announcement.
- Global release: November 5, 2026, with India on the same day.
- Advance bookings: October 20, 2026, on Dussehra.
- Languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
- Next chapter: Ramayana Part 2 is planned for Diwali 2027.
Why the Jatayu reveal lands now
Jatayu is not simply another mythological figure. He is the moment the story turns sacrifice into action. By revealing him a week before bookings, the campaign is asking viewers to connect with the epic’s emotional stakes first, then buy tickets.
That matters because event films often lead with scale—battles, VFX and starcast. Here, a single character poster is doing the emotional work. It signals that the adaptation will not skip the quieter moments where the Ramayana’s values actually live.
The film already carries a marquee cast: Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Nitesh Tiwari directs, with Prime Focus Studios producing alongside DNEG and Monster Mind Creations.
For fans, the practical move is simple: set October 20 aside if you want opening-day seats. From Dussehra to November 5, the campaign is built like a countdown between two festival dates.
