Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy comedy Udta Teer had a promising weekend, but its first Monday brought the kind of slowdown that separates a solid opener from a sustained run. According to Sacnilk, the film collected an estimated ₹2.71 crore net in India on its fourth day, a 67% dip from Sunday.
That brings the four-day total to ₹22.26 crore, with the film playing across 5,583 shows. It is the directorial debut of writer Akash A Kaushik, known for Housefull 4, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
The weekend math
Udta Teer opened on October 23 with ₹4.10 crore, a modest start by the lead actor’s standards, but it built momentum quickly.
- Friday: ₹4.10 crore
- Saturday: ₹7.25 crore, up roughly 76% from opening day
- Sunday: ₹8.20 crore
- Monday: ₹2.71 crore, a 67% drop
The weekend growth matters because it showed audiences were responding after opening day. Monday is the first real test of whether the film can pull in weekday crowds, and a fall of this size means word of mouth will have to carry it through the week.
Where it stands in Ayushmann’s filmography
The ₹4.10 crore opening did not place Udta Teer among Ayushmann’s top five openers. His biggest first-day numbers have come from franchise or well-known comic vehicles: Thamma at ₹24 crore, Dream Girl 2 at ₹9.75 crore, Dream Girl at ₹9.50 crore, Bala at ₹9.25 crore and Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan at ₹8.75 crore.
That comparison is less about the actor’s draw and more about the kind of film Udta Teer is: an original spy comedy without a franchise title, which often relies more on word of mouth than a big opening day.
The story behind the film
Udta Teer follows a Pakistani spy, played by Khurrana, who loses his memory after a blast. When he wakes, he believes he is an Indian Counter-Terrorism Squad officer. That mix-up throws him into a cross-border espionage mission, with his identity confusion driving much of the comedy. Sara Ali Khan stars alongside him, backed by an ensemble including Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Raghubir Yadav.
The film is produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.
The weekday test
The next few days are now the story to watch. After a weekend that rose from Friday to Sunday, Udta Teer needs a stronger weekday hold to keep adding to its ₹22.26 crore total. With other recent releases competing for screens, its Tuesday and Wednesday numbers will show whether the film is a sleeper hit or a weekend-dependent performer.
For celebrity watchers, the box office trajectory is a reminder that even star-led titles live and die by the Monday after opening weekend. If you plan to catch the spy comedy in cinemas, this week’s footfall will decide how long it stays on screens.
