For Bollywood fans, few recent announcements felt as big as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan coming together. That 2019 project, Inshallah, was shelved days before the cameras were set to roll. Now it may return—though not in its old form.
According to a Mid Day report, Bhansali and Bhatt are in early discussions for a third film together: a revived, reimagined version of Inshallah. The original pairing with Salman fell apart over creative differences, but the core love story apparently stayed alive.
What the revival would change
The report suggests this will not be the exact film announced years ago. A source quoted by Mid Day explained:
“It’s not being looked at as the same film that was announced years ago. The core story remains the same, but the material will be reworked and given a fresh spin.”
The biggest difference is the casting approach. Bhansali is said to be finalising the script first, then moving to who plays the lead. That leaves the male lead open for now.
- Salman Khan is occupied with Raj-DK’s film.
- Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t decided his next after King.
- A younger actor may also fit the reworked story, the report adds.
Why it matters now
Bhansali and Bhatt already have one blockbuster together, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and their second film, Love & War, is set for January 2027. A third project would strengthen one of Hindi cinema’s more reliable director-actor pairs.
The revival also changes what “shelved” means. A film that once seemed permanently off can become a fresh slate when the filmmaker is willing to rework it.
Nothing is greenlit yet. The report is about conversations, not a confirmed film, so fans should treat casting chatter with patience. Script first remains the operative rule.
