Mumbai: Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s Tu Hai Meri Kiran will arrive in cinemas on October 23 after all. A day before the scheduled opening, producers Vishal Rana and Sarvesh Goel confirmed that the ₹8.85 crore co-production dispute that had clouded the release has been resolved internally.
The announcement ends a short but sharp period of uncertainty for the film, which was halted by a Bombay High Court order just days before its release.
A last-minute legal scare
The trouble began on October 19, when the Bombay High Court issued an interim order restraining the theatrical release. Justice Amit Borkar passed the order under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act after co-producer AND Movie Products LLP approached the court over a financial dispute with Echelon Productions.
AND Movie claimed it had put ₹8.85 crore into the project under a co-production agreement signed in March 2024. It said the money had not been returned even after the agreed deadline had passed, and alleged that a cheque issued towards payment had been dishonoured.
Instagram posts vs contractual rights
Echelon Productions argued that AND Movie had effectively agreed to the release by participating in promotional posts on Instagram. The court rejected that reasoning. It made clear that taking part in a film’s publicity does not automatically mean a producer has given up contractual rights or approved the commercial release.
That distinction matters beyond this film. Many disputes over film and music projects turn on whether everyday business activity signals consent. The court’s position draws a clear line: marketing participation is not the same as a signed clearance.
What the court directed
- Echelon Productions was directed to deposit ₹8.85 crore, with 15% interest, as security within three working days before proceeding with the release.
- The production house was asked to disclose third-party agreements linked to the film’s commercial exploitation.
- It also had to restore the agreed producer credits within 48 hours.
Producers clear the path
After the order, both producers maintained that the matter had been settled internally. “Everything is now sorted, and we are moving ahead with the release of Tu Hai Meri Kiran as planned on 23rd October,” Vishal Rana said. Sarvesh Goel added that the team was focused on the release and that the priority was to get the film to audiences as intended.
What to expect from the film
Directed and written by Karan Rawal, Tu Hai Meri Kiran blends romance, mystery and suspense. The story explores complicated relationships, one-sided love and unexpected turns. Alongside Sinha and Iqbal, the cast includes Ankit Gupta, Sherlin Seth, Zarina Wahab and Purnendu Bhattacharya. The film is presented by Echelon Productions and AND Productions, with Vishal Rana, Sarvesh Goel, Ashwani Kumar, Manoj Darak and Nrupal Patel as producers.
For audiences, the key takeaway is simple: the release is on, and the film opens on its original date. For the industry, the court’s clear language on promotional activity is a useful reference for how contractual consent is judged.
