Ramayana: Part One, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, switched on advance bookings in India yesterday, and the first 24 hours suggest the Diwali release is converting anticipation into occupancy. Trade estimates put the early total at roughly ₹2 crore net for the opening day, with sales currently live only at the national chains: PVR INOX, Cinepolis, and Miraj.
Across PVR INOX and Cinepolis, about 40,000 tickets have been sold so far. That figure does not yet include South India, where metro centres such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai usually give national-chain numbers a significant lift. A full-fledged opening, trade trackers suggest, could have pushed the 24-hour count beyond 60,000 tickets.
Why the calendar matters more than the comparison
The 40,000-ticket start has to be read with the release window in mind. Dhurandhar 2, Jawan, and Pathaan all crossed 100,000 tickets in their early national-chain sales, but none of them opened bookings 15 days before release. Ramayana: Part One is working with a longer runway, so opening-day advance figures will naturally look smaller even if the eventual advance is enormous. Trade circles are therefore not treating this as an apples-to-apples comparison.
The premium-seat signal
What is harder to ignore is the behaviour inside the halls. Premium-format screens are seeing their best seats sell out for prime-time shows, which points to audiences locking in the film early rather than waiting for the next update. For a title billed as the biggest film ever made in Indian cinema, that urgency is not surprising.
What to watch next
- South India bookings: Once Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai open, the ticket count should jump.
- Post-Diwali Monday: Festivity softness is expected early, but the week after Diwali opens a more lucrative box-office window.
- Premium formats: Prime-time availability is a real-time indicator of demand.
The trade view is that this is a film that does not rely only on an opening weekend. Pinkvilla’s tracking also frames the title alongside recent mythological phenomena such as Mahavtara Narsimha and Hanuman Ansh, suggesting Ramayana: Part One could be a bigger version of those runs. After Diwali, the runway widens, and the next big update will be what happens once southern metros go live. All figures are trade estimates from advance trends and not final certified collections.
