Salman Khan is stepping back from the next Bigg Boss 20 Weekend Ka Vaar, and his replacement is already announced. During Sunday’s October 18 episode, the actor told housemates that filmmaker Rohit Shetty would take over hosting duties for the upcoming weekend episode.

Salman did not give a reason on air. Reports point to prior work commitments, but there is no official confirmation yet.

A rare hosting switch in the Bigg Boss format

Weekend Ka Vaar is the weekly episode where the host reviews the week’s house drama and holds contestants to account. Salman’s familiar, direct style has become central to the segment, so any change in the chair is a small event in itself.

Rohit Shetty brings a different kind of reality-television experience. Alongside directing blockbusters such as Singham, Simmba and Chennai Express, he has hosted several seasons of Khatron Ke Khiladi. His latest stint comes after the finale of the 15th season of the fear-based reality show.

Host changes on a long-running reality show are rare enough to become a story on their own. Bigg Boss has built much of its weekend identity around Salman’s presence: his warnings, his humour and his direct questions to contestants. Even for one episode, that absence changes the texture of the episode.

That said, Rohit Shetty’s appointment looks like a continuity play. He is not a complete outsider to the reality universe. His command of Khatron Ke Khiladi has already shown he can manage stunts, confrontations and celebrity contestants in an unscripted environment, which is close to what Weekend Ka Vaar demands.

The security backdrop

The hosting news is not the only reason Salman has been trending. On October 19, Tiger Shroff was attacked by three assailants who opened fire at him, according to the report. A purported social media post allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang warned members of the Mumbai film industry against ignoring threats or working with Salman Khan. In the post, a person identified as Anil Pandit claimed that he and Harman Sandhu were behind the incident and said they had tried to warn Tiger earlier.

The message included the line that they had “tried to make him understand, but he did not listen.” It also warned others in the industry to “wait and watch.” Security has since been heightened at Salman’s Mumbai residence.

What to watch now

  • Salman announced the switch during the Sunday, October 18 episode of Bigg Boss 20.
  • Rohit Shetty will host the next Weekend Ka Vaar, his first Bigg Boss stint after hosting Khatron Ke Khiladi.
  • Reports cite prior work commitments for Salman’s absence; no official reason has been shared.
  • Tiger Shroff was attacked on October 19, and security around Salman Khan has been tightened.

For Bigg Boss viewers, the test is how Rohit handles the Weekend Ka Vaar format with his own energy. The audience already knows him for staging stunts and fear-based tasks. Now the question is whether he brings a tougher tone to the house or keeps the format closer to Salman’s rhythm.
