Jailer 2 began its Hindi box office run on a number that looks modest on paper and much stronger once you see the release map. The Rajinikanth-led action drama collected an estimated Rs 2.25 crore nett (Rs 2.70 crore gross) on Thursday, according to early trade estimates reported by Pinkvilla.
The opening figure comes with a caveat: the film reportedly skipped the national chains PVR Inox and Cinepolis in parts of North India. That makes the figure a partial-release number. The trade estimate suggests the movie would have gone past Rs 5 crore easily in Hindi had those chains been on board.
Why the Thursday number matters
For celebrity-watchers, a Rajinikanth opening is a measure of star pull outside Tamil Nadu. The Hindi belt is not his home market, but it is a large swing audience that can push a South film from a strong regional run to a genuine pan-India total.

That is why the weekend trajectory matters more than the opening figure. If Friday and Saturday show a sharp rise, Jailer 2 can chase the first film’s North total and perhaps set a new high. If competition splits the audience, the film may have to rely on word of mouth to hold screens.
What to watch through Sunday
The biggest variable is exhibition. If the national chains expand the title, the per-day numbers can jump quickly. The second variable is the new Hindi releases. With Prahaar and Nayyi Navelli entering the market, Jailer 2 will need the Rajinikanth loyalist audience to turn up in numbers across the weekend.
From a box-office standpoint, this is a useful case of how release width shapes a headline opening. A film can report Rs 2.25 crore on a restricted circuit and still be a stronger start than a film that reports the same figure with all screens available.
