Shriya Saran Condemns AI Abuse After Janhvi Kapoor’s Morphed Video

Days after an AI-morphed clip from Janhvi Kapoor’s song Chuttamalle in Devara began circulating, Shriya Saran has added her voice to the pushback against AI-generated abuse. The video altered Janhvi’s appearance and was shared widely before it was taken down.

The clip used the song from the 2024 film Devara and was edited to show Janhvi in a sexually explicit way. It drew swift condemnation from Janhvi and other actors.

In an Instagram note, Janhvi called the clip deeply violating and said it bordered on sexual assault. She framed it as part of a larger reality for women, who constantly negotiate for their own safety.

Several actors spoke up in support:

  • Jr NTR
  • Chiranjeevi
  • Vijay Deverakonda
  • Khushbu Sundar

Shriya Saran’s response

Shriya Saran told News18 that she has been a victim of AI abuse too. Morphed images of her have appeared online, and she said the edits can be so different that she sometimes does not know if she is looking at herself. Outfits disappear, body shapes change, and the result can be completely removed from reality.

“It’s annoying and it’s not right,” she said. She added that AI has a lot to give, but that the same tools can also be dangerous, and every technology eventually forces people to decide how to live with it or deal with it.

Why the industry response matters

That tension is the heart of the matter. AI can unlock creative possibilities, but when it is used to alter someone’s body without consent, it stops being imagination and becomes objectification. Shriya’s point is that the victim often cannot even tell where the real image ends and the fake begins.

Janhvi did not treat the morphed video as a joke. By publicly naming it as deeply violating and bordering on sexual assault, she made the creators and sharers the issue, not the woman in the clip. The support from Jr NTR, Chiranjeevi, Vijay Deverakonda and Khushbu Sundar shows that the industry is starting to view this as a safety problem rather than a social media nuisance.

Shriya widens that frame. She is not talking only about one viral video; she is describing a pattern that many women in public life already experience. When a well-known actor says she sometimes cannot recognise herself, it is a signal of how easily AI can blur consent.

What you can do

For readers, the practical step is simple: do not share unverified clips, report manipulated content when you see it, and treat non-consensual edits as harm rather than fan art. The less attention these posts get, the less incentive there is to create them.

Meanwhile, Drishyam continues its run

Shriya was most recently seen in Drishyam: The Conclusion. The third instalment brings back Ajay Devgn, Ishita Dutta and Tabu, with Jaideep Ahlawat joining the cast. Mohanlal praised the way the franchise was brought to an end. The film has become Ajay Devgn’s highest-grossing release, collecting over ₹490 crore worldwide within 11 days.
