The wait for Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s next film just got shorter. Pocket Novel, starring Vijay Sethupathi, has officially completed filming, reuniting the actor and director for the first time since their 2019 cult favourite Super Deluxe.

The makers marked the wrap by sharing a behind-the-scenes video from the sets. It offers quick glimpses of Sethupathi with co-star Malavika Mohanan, antagonist Raj B Shetty, and Kumararaja himself. A formal release date is still under wraps.

A reunion with real expectations

This is the second time Sethupathi and Kumararaja have worked together. Super Deluxe was a hyperlink drama that wove separate storylines into one film. Sethupathi played a transgender woman returning to her wife and son while facing the stigma around her identity; Fahadh Faasil, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Ramya Krishnan also had key roles.

That film earned its place in conversations because it took risks with structure and casting. A follow-up collaboration is therefore news, not routine, especially because Kumararaja tends to work slowly and choose projects carefully.

The crew behind Pocket Novel

The team is stacked with names that matter to Tamil cinema followers:

  • Story and screenplay: Andrew Louis, creator of the web series Vadhandhi
  • Cinematographer: Nirav Shah
  • Editor and executive producer: Sathyaraj Natarajan
  • Music: Ilaiyaraaja, reuniting with Kumararaja after Modern Love Chennai

Kumararaja is producing alongside SD Ezhilmathy under the Tyler Durden and Kino Fist banners. Ezhilmathy is also the costume designer. That combination of production and craft roles suggests a tightly controlled vision rather than a rushed commercial assembly.

What this means for fans

With filming complete, Pocket Novel now moves into post-production. For audiences, the next realistic milestones are a first-look poster, a teaser, or news of a release window. Until then, the presence of Sethupathi and the return of the Super Deluxe pairing are enough to keep this title on watchlists.

Sethupathi’s busy slate

Vijay Sethupathi was recently seen in the comedy-drama Baththa, directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan. The film follows a man trapped in a school restroom who is forced to rethink his life, an offbeat premise that suits the actor’s taste for unusual scripts.

Up next, he is expected to make a cameo in Jailer 2, the Rajinikanth starrer scheduled to release on October 15, 2026. He also has Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road and Inji Vellam in the pipeline.
