Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series has officially boarded a two-part historical epic about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Titled “The Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” the film will be directed by Sandeep Singh, with actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty attached as co-producer.

The makers say the saga will focus on the Maratha ruler’s military campaigns, leadership and vision of Swarajya. Pre-production is currently underway, and filming is scheduled to begin in early 2027.

T-Series steps in

The collaboration brings together Bhushan Kumar, whose banner T-Series has backed a string of Hindi productions, and Rishab Shetty, who earned wider national recognition with the Kannada film Kantara. As a mark of the partnership, Kumar presented Shetty with a century-old painting of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

  • Title: The Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
  • Format: Two-part historical epic
  • Director: Sandeep Singh
  • Producers: Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar
  • Co-producers: Shiv Chanana, Kabiir Sadanand and Rishab Shetty
  • Shoot: Expected to begin in early 2027

Why this pairing matters

For celebrity-watchers, this is a scale signal. T-Series brings production muscle, while Shetty’s ability to play larger-than-life characters—something Kumar himself pointed to—makes him a strong fit for a figure like Shivaji Maharaj. The team is planning an ensemble cast and an international creative team, which points to a period film built for a wide audience.

“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maharashtra have given us a legacy to be proud of, and I believe it is our responsibility to honour that legacy through cinema and share it with the world,” Kumar said.

He added that Singh’s narration of the story convinced him to take up the project.

What the two-part canvas allows

A two-part structure gives the story room to move across key battles, victories, sacrifices and lesser-known episodes from the life of the 17th-century ruler. It also lets the production build anticipation across two releases rather than one.

The film is presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series Films, and is a joint production of T-Series Films and Legend Studios. The screenplay is written by Rishi Virmani and Singh.

Casting details are still awaited. With pre-production underway, more announcements are likely before cameras roll in early 2027.
