Prem Keetanu’s first Monday at the box office underlined how hard it is for a smaller film to breathe next to a franchise release. The campus comedy added Rs 10 lakh net on day four across 685 shows, taking its four-day India net total to Rs 1.21 crore. India gross stands at Rs 1.45 crore, while overseas numbers have not yet been reported.
Released on October 2, the film went head-to-head with Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam The Conclusion. In that kind of clash, screen counts and show timings tilt toward the title with the bigger advance and wider appeal. Monday’s figure works out to roughly Rs 1,460 per show, which tells its own story about occupancy.
Prem Keetanu’s day 4 scorecard
- Monday collection: Rs 10 lakh net
- Monday shows: 685
- Four-day India net total: Rs 1.21 crore
- India gross: Rs 1.45 crore
- Overseas collection: not yet available
To put the weekday drop in context, the weekend portion comes to about Rs 1.11 crore. Monday’s Rs 10 lakh is a clear cool-down, and the film is still short of the Rs 1.50 crore net mark. The next few days will decide whether it holds screens or slips further.
A sweet idea with a tough slot
Prem Keetanu is directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, written by Deepak Kingrani, and stars Veer Pahariya, Aafiya Sayed and Aparshakti Khurana, with Nikhil Vijay and Rakesh Bedi in supporting roles. It is a Hindi remake of the 2024 Malayalam film Premalu.
Remakes can arrive with built-in familiarity, but they still need their own word of mouth to travel. The challenge here is that the film opened in the shadow of Drishyam The Conclusion, which made it harder for a light coming-of-age comedy to find a large first-weekend audience.
What the review found
Bollywood Bubble’s review rated the film 3.5 stars and called it a “sweet, sincere and heartwarming coming-of-age comedy-drama.” The review also praised the treatment of friendship, first love and growing up, while noting that some stretches are predictable and the screenplay could have been tighter.
For our readers, the takeaway is simple: if a warm campus comedy sounds like your kind of watch, this week is the safer window. With collections this low, exhibitors may start pruning shows, so waiting for the weekend could mean fewer options.
