Drishyam 3 has crossed ₹300 crore in worldwide collections, but Shriya Saran’s biggest takeaway from the set is about time, not money. In an interaction with India Today, the actor said the production would send her home early after shoots—sometimes even before Ajay Devgn—because she is a new mother.
Saran’s daughter was eight months old when she filmed Drishyam 2, and a little older by the time the third instalment went on floors. Even so, she said, the team kept the same understanding.
“They were very supportive,” Saran told India Today, adding that the unit’s reasoning was simply: “She is a new mother.”
Small scheduling, bigger signal
The gesture was not a dramatic production overhaul. It was everyday flexibility—an earlier wrap so a mother could get home. Saran framed it as kindness rather than a contractual negotiation.
That distinction matters in an industry that is now openly debating what mother-friendly film sets should look like. Deepika Padukone’s exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit followed reports of a fixed working-hour demand, among other conditions. Parineeti Chopra, who had a son last year, said at the trailer launch of her web show Shaque that she would hate to stop working just because she became a mother.
Chopra described it as a two-way relationship: the industry still has to offer roles, and mothers should not lose work for having children. She pointed to Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as working mothers who continue to deliver.
What Saran says changed
Motherhood has also shifted how Saran selects parts. She wants roles her daughter can eventually watch with pride, rather than projects chosen only for visibility or volume.
That lens, she suggested, helps her stay intentional about the work she takes.
The Drishyam 3 moment
Drishyam 3’s commercial run adds weight to the story. The film has earned over ₹300 crore in worldwide collections, making the production both a box office performer and an example of on-set goodwill.
For celebrity watchers, the takeaway is clear:
- Drishyam 3’s unit wrapped Saran early as a new mother, sometimes before Ajay Devgn.
- Parineeti Chopra says audiences are not cancelling mothers, and writers can keep casting them.
- The film has passed ₹300 crore worldwide, showing care and commercial success can coexist.
As more actors speak about working after motherhood, the conversation is moving from private adjustments to public expectations on sets.
